Reducing the Size and Growth of Government

The debate in our legislature isn't focused on what obsolete programs to cut; it's focused on how to overturn the citizens initiative I-960 so they can increase their spending. Despite the downturn in the economy and the citizen's desire to reign in government spending, every budget cycle our legislature continues to grow the level of government spending.
They constantly warn us about budget cuts, but when they're talking budget cuts they're not real cuts. They're talking about the percentage they cannot increase their spending. For example, if they wanted to raise the spending by 40%, but could only muster 20%, they say they have a 20% budget cut. This is not an honest or sincere way to discuss our budget. I will work to change this old, outdated approach that's completely disrespectful to the citizens of this great state.
As your next representative, I will be absolutely committed to helping you more of your own money to spend or invest at you see fit. I will insist that our state government work within it's means. It's irresponsible and it's bad public policy to pass unsustainable budgets that make permanent funding promises based on one time or unsustainable funding revenues such as federal grants and the sale of cigarettes. I'm committed to the government serving the people, not the government serving the government.
